Meet the Team - Ruben, Senior Supervisor
We thought it would be a great idea for all of you to meet the members of our wonderful team at the Godolphin Arms, starting with Ruben, our Senior Supervisor and kite surfing enthusiast!
Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I come from a Portuguese island called Madeira and moved to Cornwall about six years ago. The reason I moved here was because I met this beautiful Cornish girl that I’m still together with - we have a beautiful girl called Luna.
I’ve been working at the Godolphin Arms for around four years now. I started as a server and worked my way up the ranks and am now a senior supervisor. Every day at the Godolphin Arms has its challenges, but with the views that we have and the team that I work with, I always have a smile on my face.
What is it that you love about working at the Godolphin Arms?
I like the fact that everyday is different, it’s definitely not a boring job! I work with some great people that support me very well and I do the same for them - that’s what keeps us together and strong as a team.
I also meet some really nice people every day and that’s also a motivation to keep working hard to provide great experiences for our customers.
When you’re not at work, where can we find you?
On my days off I love to spend my days at the beach with my family. We really enjoy putting together a lovely BBQ by the sea, and the little one loves to play in the sand or just simply splashing around in the water. As for me, I do my bit of kitesurfing - all of that, is a perfect day off for me. I normally use Marazion beach, towards the Long Rock end, where The Hoxton Special is situated. There is such a good vibe over there and it’s the perfect spot to just take a break and enjoy a coffee.
You mentioned The Hoxton Special, what sort of activities do they offer?
It’s pretty cool in there, and I’m not just saying that because I’m with my friends Angus and Olaf, but because it’s chilled out, welcoming and has such a positive vibe. Olaf makes exceptional coffees and there’s always a good selection of cakes that I love! They also do several activities from yoga to stand up paddle and also kitesurfing lessons. Angus, the owner and operator, is a very motivational person, always positive and always with a “can do” attitude, so it’s a great place to just chill and enjoy the day out.
Can you recommend any other activities that guests should do while visiting the area?
I always recommend walking the Cornish coast paths, especially towards the Land’s End and Porthcurno way. It has such beautiful cliffs and views, that in my opinion, is one of the best things here in Cornwall.
Where is your favourite place in West Cornwall?
The beach at Porthcurno. It’s such a special place - the sand, the cliffs, the sea, it’s just spectacular down there.
Do you have a favourite Cornish delicacy?
I can’t deny it, it’s the Cornish pasty!
Can you describe Mount’s Bay to us in three words?
Perfect kitesurfing playground
