Summer Holiday Activities in West Cornwall

The Summer Holidays are here and there is plenty to see, do and explore in August!

While staying with us, why not make the journey over to St Michael’s Mount with the family to explore the island as well as enjoy a host of activities. Delve into the history of the island’s village and harbour on a free guided tour, visit the garden on a Thursday where budding gardeners can pot-up a sempervivum to take home, join the team from Great Scott! Adventures Outdoors for a rummage in the rockpools, or relax in the sun on the Dairy Lawn and absorb the tales of the tidal island.

Visit Land’s End every Tuesday and Thursday evening throughout August for Magic in the Skies, where you will be able to see the westernmost point of the country lit up with a show of vibrant fireworks, accompanied by a musical journey retelling the ancient legend of the 'Lost Land of Lyonesse'.  Let the little ones imaginations run wild on Children’s Day, with a host of activities and performances.

Pop over to Penzance and stop by Penlee Open Air Theatre to enjoy an afternoon or evening of entertainment with their various shows and events. Take the kids along to meet Morwenna the ‘beautiful’ mermaid, Ruan the reformed seagull and salty seadog Captain Pemburthy in The Sea Show, or spend the afternoon indulging in the finest wine, cider, ales, seafood, cheese and charcuterie at their Celebration of Cornish Food & Drink.

If fancy dress is your thing, why not join the Guinness World Record attempt for Pirates on the Prom on Sunday 27th August, by pulling on an eye patch, drawing your cutlass and sporting your swashbuckling attire on Penzance promenade. With a programme of activities, re-enactments, food stalls, a market, funfair and live music – there will be plenty to keep everyone entertained.

Following the nautical theme of the Bank Holiday weekend, Monday 28th August will see the annual Newlyn Fish Festival bring the fishing village to life. With fish cookery and crab picking demonstrations, live music on two stages, luggers in the harbour, trawler and gig racing, children’s entertainment, educational talks, an array of delicious food and a selection of arts and crafts stalls, you can make a day of it!
