Summer Events in Cornwall
From the unmissable Golowan Festival in Penzance to Father’s Day treats, here are some of the best summer events in Cornwall to look forward to. Let sun-kissed smiles and freckled noses lead the way!
Summer is well and truly on its way and we can’t wait for the relaxed vibes, hazy beach scenes and fun line up of events that await. Across May and June this year, all sorts of festivals and activities are taking place so you can celebrate the best of Cornish culture and don’t have to miss out on a minute of adventure.
8th May – Helston Flora Day: Held on the 8th May every year, Helston’s famous flora day marks the end of winter and the start of spring. With a colourful pageant (the Hal an Tow) parading through the town and a number of dances and live music, Flora Day is a great chance to celebrate Cornish traditions and be thoroughly entertained.
10th – 12th May – St Ives Food and Drink Festival: Live demonstrations from professional chefs, taster sessions and a huge range of local food and drink; if you love food, this is the place to be. Taking place in St Ives itself, the St Ives Food and Drink Festival is a celebration of high quality, fresh fodder and a highlight for your culinary calendar.
26th May (and 2nd June) – St Michael’s Mount Rockpool Explorer: Watch out for the glint of silvery fish as they dart through the seaweed and meet some of the local crustaceans who call the Mount home. Led by Great Scott! Adventures Outdoors, the whole family has the chance to learn first-hand about the intriguing wildlife who live around the causeway of the magical St Michael’s Mount.
24th May – 2nd June – Fal River Festival 2019: A not-for-profit community-led event, the Fal River Festival is in its 14th year and will include over 150 events across 10 days. Offering locals and visitors the chance to celebrate the past and present of the Fal River, it is definitely worth visiting whether you want to spend a few hours or a few days!
27th – 31st May – Garden Magic on the Mount: Celebrate the colours of spring with the family at St Michael’s Mount this May half term. Taking inspiration from the Mount’s beautiful gardens, you can create your own mandalas to take home as a cherished souvenir.
6th – 8th June – Royal Cornwall Show: Cornwall’s biggest annual event, the Royal Cornwall Show draws visitors from far and wide. Chock-a-block with fantastic exhibits and activities, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Offering live entertainment, competitions, displays and countless stalls selling artisan crafts, get ready for a treat at every turn.
14th – 16th June – Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival: One of the largest nautical music and song festivals in the world, be beguiled by soul-deep sea shanties. Performed by artists and bands from all over the world, this is definitely one of the best summer events in Cornwall for music-lovers.
21st – 30th June – Penzance’s Golowan Festival: A fantastic family-friendly event this summer in Cornwall, Penzance’s Golowan Festival and Mazey Day is a must-see. A vibrant mid-summer celebration with parades, performances and displays, all generations will be thoroughly enchanted. Of course, there are lots of markets and stalls too for a bite to eat or memento from the day.
