Cornish Christmas Market - Meet the Baker: Lucy Sheers of Lucy Baker
Please tell us a little bit about yourself
I am a self-taught baker living in the lovely little town of Hayle. I have been running my little dream of a business for just over 1 year now and I love it! I have always enjoyed baking but it wasn't until about 3/4 years ago it really became something I wanted to pursue. In 2016 my partner and I moved to Spain for a year where I began to bake more regularly; selling at local markets and to local cafes. On moving back to Hayle I knuckled down with a summer job until I officially started my business in November 2017. All of my ingredients are fresh, local(where possible) and of the best quality.
What can people expect to find on your stall?
An array of various sweet and festive bakes alongside some savoury pastries too. Cupcakes/rocky roads/brownies/mince pies & more. I will also have items which are great for gifts - Christmas cakes, reindeer food & hot chocolates, Terry's chocolate orange puddings.
Where did you get the idea to make your creations?
I'd say my ideas spring from various recipes & inspiration online and from different things I love too. I try to be very unique and offer something a little different to what you'd get in your everyday bakery so everything has a little twist. For example everybody loves rocky road and everybody loves the little Lotus biscuits you get with your coffee so I've put them together and made an incredibly yummy rocky road!
What is your favourite part about the creation process?
I love adding my own little tweaks, but the feeling I get when I look at a finished product(the mini somersault inside) and the customers face is priceless.
What inspires you most?
The warmth and support from my family, friends & customers
