What to do with the kids this summer!

Summer is here, and there is plenty going on throughout Cornwall to keep kids of all ages entertained – from rockpooling at St Michael’s Mount to outdoor immersive theatre at the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

3rd  – 22nd July: Wildworks 100:Unearth, Lost Gardens of Heligan - Follow WildWorks into the Underworld, woven through The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the unfolding of a show with a love story at its heart; an exploration of grief and tragedy with a deeply moving ending.

22nd July – 31st August: Storytelling, St Michael’s Mount - Celebrating the legendary Cornish giant, Cormoran, the team of island narrators will be bringing to life the story of the giant and his fearless foe, Jack the Giant Killer. Hear a nautical tales of a mythical Mount boatman who has been on St Michael’s Mount since the dawn of time, telling tales of the “Grey Rock in the Woods” to the vision of St Michael; from the first sighting of the Spanish Armada to the footprint left by Queen Victoria on the harbour cobbles.

25th July – 31st August: Wild Summer at Eden, The Eden Project - Connect with family and friends this summer as you take time outdoors to explore and enjoy the quiet places and secret spaces of Eden’s magical wild estate. Learn how to build a fire, become a natural detective and enjoy nature inspired activities.

28th July – 31st August: Tate Create, Tate St Ives – Join the BIG PAINT CHALLENGE. This summer it’s all about colour at Tate St Ives.  Get your paint brushes ready and help us create an exhibition of artworks, inspired by Patrick Heron but made by you! Be prepared for pots of paint, lots of fun and a rainbow of colour.

30th July – 3rd August: Hertfordshire Players: Alice, The Minack Theatre - Based on Lewis Carroll’s classic tale, Laura Wade’s Alice breathes exciting new life in to a much-loved story. Be prepared to join Alice as she travels down the rabbit hole to a Wonderland like you’ve never seen before.

1st – 29th August: Beach Art Explorers, Tate St Ives - Explore the beach, get creative and make your own artwork inspired by the wonderful artists and magical stories of Porthmeor. Enjoy tales of the artists that lived and worked in St Ives over a 100 years ago and create your own inspirational paintings to take home

1st – 29th August: Summer Art Classes, The Exchange - Led by the wonderful Alice Ellis-Bray and inspired by our Rose Wylie exhibition, these workshops are for 7 – 13 Year olds. Perhaps you will paint the story of a dream, a portrait of yourself using mirrors, or different scenes from the same story.

2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th August: Summer Adventures – Busy Bees & Butterflies, St Michael’s Mount - New to 2018, the team will be in the garden area, where you will be able to concoct your own pocket of perfume using flower. create your own butterfly flag and decorate your own flower that will magically blossom in the water.

3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th & 31st August: Summer Adventures - Rockpool Explorer, St Michael’s Mount - Find out what lies beneath the the tideline and uncover the magical underwater world of weird and wonderful creatures - from bodybuilder crabs to sea slugs...what will you find?

5th, 12th, 19th & 26th August: Summer Adventures – Tall Stories of the Castle, St Michael’s Mount - Follow in the footsteps of a saint, royalty, giants, monks and pilgrims by leaving your mark on St Michael's Mount with your barefeet. And of course, no story on the Mount is complete without a mention of our very own Cormoran the Giant. Model your own giant's head using clay and natural materials - will your giant have a moustache, large hairy ears, be friendly or fierce?

6th August: The Dancing Frog - Kneehigh Asylum, The Lost Gardens of Heligan - The Asylum is back in a new site at The Lost Gardens of Heligan and plans are afoot to create the ultimate night out! Watch the story of poor Gertrude unravel. She thinks she’ll never laugh or love again. But then she has a lucky encounter on a lily pad. With a frog. Called George. Suddenly, things are looking bright again!

7th, 14th, 21st & 28th August: Summer Adventures – Myths and Legends from the Sea, St Michael’s Mount: create objects and artworks that are linked to tales of mythical boatmen and ancient fishermen. From capturing a mermaid in an underwater seascape to constructing a reed boat that can sail the Seven Seas!

17th Aug – 2nd September: Rogue Theatre Summer Shows, Tehidy Woods -This immersive theatre adventure starts with an enthralling journey along the wandering paths of Cornwall’s breathtakingly beautiful Tehidy Woods North Cliffs.  Journey through the trees where chance meetings with wolves, witches, faeries, princesses and fairy tale creatures will weave you into the magic of the Wild world.
