Under the current management team of Angela and Robin Collins, the Godolphin Arms has grown from strength to strength and there is a commitment from St Aubyn Estates to build further on its sucess.  The Godolphin Arms is one of Cornwall's best locations, situated in the heart of Marazion and offering stunning views of St Michael's Mount and the surrounding bay. We want to be able to share its uniqueness with more customers that will also contribute to the prosperity of the town of Marazion and the wider community.

The Architects Design Group (ADG) has been appointed to provide architectural design services in the development of the project.

The project is seeking to address some long-standing problems with the existing layout and gain an inspirational and efficient interior. The primary objectives of the project are to enhance the public areas of the building, provide improved kitchen and dining facilities and rationalise the internal layout to improve circulation and access for customers.

This will be achieved by focusing on the following key project drivers:

  • Kitchen redesign to provide improved and enlarged facilities enabling a new menu of freshly-cooked quality food.
  • Creating distinct spaces so that a range of meals and drinks can be enjoyed throughout the day, from breakfast to (cream) tea, from casual bar snack to sit-down lunch or dinner.
  • Introducing separate hotel and restautant entrances by moving the hotel reception to the under used Gallery part of the building - allowing better care for hotel guests and also a clear indication for passers-by that there are great eating opportunities.
  • Rationalise connections between ground and lower floors together with hotel access from reception to upper floors.
  • Provide a dedicated space that can be offered for groups and special events.
  • Improve all staff access and facilities.
  • Modernising the mechanics and engineering to minimise downtime and potentially reduce energy costs.
  • Developing a strategy for sustainable energy solutions.

The proposals include a contemporary two storey glass extension to the rear elevation of the main building which will form the centrepiece of the new works and provide uniterrupted views across Mounts Bay and St Michael's Mount, whatever the season.

Improving the food offering will play a key part in the development. The kitchen is being doubled in size so that the quality of the food can be improved with dishes being freshly prepared and made in-house. The intention is to have an all-day living area for dining or drinking with focus on quality fresh food, that is locally sourced, simply cooked and competitively priced.

In February of this year, we received planning permission for the exciting development and we will be closing at the end of October 2013 and re-opening Easter 2014.

Lots of you have already booked for 2014 to discover the new look Godolphin Arms and we look forward to sharing developments with you as we move forwards through the different development phases.
