Marazion's Godolphin Arms has called a temporary ‘last orders' ahead of an exciting evolution that will see it reopen its doors as a quality, stylish and comfortable beachside inn early 2014.
Set in one of the most beautiful locations in the country, The Godolphin Arms is about to undergo an interior and exterior redesign, creating a new, showpiece two-storey glass extension at the rear, that will extend the dining area and immersive sea views out towards the iconic St Michael's Mount.
Award-winning local architects ADG and renowned interior design specialists 3idog are leading the design team, working alongside St Aubyn Estates' in-house building and maintenance team, Cornish Heritage Builders who, from 3 November, will make a start on the five month transformative build.
The Godolphin Arms' unique location has been the inspiration for the new interior and furniture design with a calming, nature-inspired palette of greys, blues and sea foam greens and sustainably sourced bleached woods, stone and recycled timbers, bringing the beauty of the beach outside in. The redesign will create a range of distinct and comfortable spaces for every dining or drinking occasion; from snug, cosy boltholes by an open fire to a light-bathed two-storey dining area with wooden floors and doors that open out to create al fresco beachside dining during the summer months.
An improved food offering will play an important part in the evolution and a new chef will be announced at the end of the year, tasked with creating an all-day dining menu with dishes that are simply cooked and affordably priced using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
The ten beautiful en-suite rooms will retain their comfortable and stylish appeal and a new reception area will extend the warm welcome for staying guests, playing a significant part in improving access around the building.
Robin and Angela Collyns have managed the Godolphin Arms for the last three years, growing the business from strength to strength and, with their lively and experienced team, have taken great pride in warmly welcoming customers and guests to an inn at the heart of Marazion. Robin Collyns says; "Whilst we will miss the daily contact with our customers, we are excited about the next chapter in the Godolphin Arms history. We will continue to play an active role in the community whilst we're closed, supporting local events such as sponsoring Marazion's Christmas lights and hosting the local school's weekly Beach Club in an alternative venue. We're really looking forward to re-opening our doors in April 2014 and embracing the future of the all-new Godolphin Arms. The same warm welcome will be on offer when we reopen - to be rediscovered by our existing customers and a whole new generation of Godolphin Arms visitors".
Lord St Levan, Chairman of St Aubyn Estates, said: "We are proud to be building on the success of The Godolphin Arms by seeking to maximise its wonderful location. I hope that this project will bring added economic activity and vibrancy to the town of Marazion, as well as creating a destination of choice for people looking to enjoy themselves in West Cornwall."
